Held at the Grant Township Hall 230 Gratiot Street Copper Harbor, Michigan 49918 Minutes for Tuesday, April 13th, 2010 Call to OrderSupervisor Ken Stigers called the meeting to order at 6:08 p.m. and led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. Roll CallPresent were Supervisor Ken Stigers, Clerk Kelly Coltas, Trustee Art Davis and Trustee Ned Huwatschek. Treasurer Karen Karl was absent.
Supervisor’s Remarks The Board would like to extend condolences to the Smith family, the Trucks family and the O’Callaghan family on their recent losses. The March Board of Review is completed and there were 25 appeals filed. There has been a dismissal of the FOIA lawsuit against the Township. The dates for Spring Clean up are set as follows: Saturday June 12th, 2010 and Sunday June 13th , 2010. Monthly Reports Treasurer’s ReportNo Report Utility Board Still working on the option to purchase the land for the Well Head expansion. The language has been set and given to the land owner who needs to go over it with their attorney and we will go from there then. DDA The DDA passed their portion of the resolution and has sent it on to the Township for their approval. Hunter’s Point No Report Public Safety CH Fire Dept: Not much happening this month. Had two meeting and did some training. Two 1st Responder call outs in April. LLB Fire Dept: No Report 911 No Report Old Business No Old Business New BusinessBob Haase came before the board to go over a new event for this coming summer. His group is hosting the Kuparisaari Triathlon (means Copper Island). It will be held on August 15th in and around Lac La Belle. It is known as a Half Iron Man Triathlon, it consist of a 56 mile bike race, 13 mile running race and a 1.2 mile swim. The Group feels this is an excellent location for an event like this and would like to extend an invitation to those in the Copper Man Triathlon to stay on and compete in this one as well. Portage Health is one of the sponsors. Still working on the coordination of the event, they need to work with the Township for a permit from MDOT for the portion of the race on US 41. They will need to provide certificate of insurance to the Township with the Township named as additional insured. They will keep in touch with the Township as the plans progress and will go to the SSA meeting as there will be revenue generated from the event and they would like to donate some to a cause in the LLB area. The DDA passed a resolution to change a portion of their “Plan”; the Township needs to pass a resolution to hold a public hearing on the proposed change and then a resolution passing it.
The Clerk then discussed the upcoming ballot wording for Headlee rollback proposal that will be going on the ballot in August. The Township is trying to make the ballot wording easier to understand. The wording will be voted on at the next meeting.
