Supervisor’s Remarks

A reminder that the Truth in Taxation meeting will be on March 28th , at 10:30 am in the Community Building and will be followed at 11:00 am by the Budget Review meeting.

Board of review is under way and the next meeting is on Wednesday the 11th, at 3:00 pm and again on March 17th at 9:00 am.

There is a potential problem with the dumpster at LLB.  They called to have it pull on March 8th, last Sunday and road restrictions went on Monday.  Note that road restrictions went on two weeks earlier this year.  As of today though Greg Patrick at the Road Commission felt that since it was to get real cold again that there was a window of opportunity available on Thursday the 12th of March and Waste Management would be able to do a quick flop out.

Old Business

The Grant writing workshop that the Supervisor Stigers and his deputy Powers attended was very useful.  Things are changing out there and it will be more difficult for areas like Grant Twp to get the larger type of Grant we have received in the past.  Mostly due to our more rural nature.  We will still be eligible for land acquisition and or improvement but in small amounts of around $100.000.

Larger projects can still be done, but must be accomplished in phases.

Rec Plan: Public meeting that was held had an attendance of 13 people.  The plan was explained and why we had to redo the whole process.  Survey Post Cards were sent out sending people to a web site to do a survey and they have had 35 people to date fill out the survey.  At the April meeting we should have the plan available and then after the Twp approval, the plan will be on display to the General Public for 30 days, before being sent to the DNR.

Paramedic Equipment Purchase is being worked on by Powers and the Sheriff Ron Lahti.

Keweenaw Scrap Metal dispute.  Supervisor Stigers spoke with the Twp attorney and he said we could take the issue to small claims court is the fire chiefs were so inclined, but chance of settlement would be small.  There is now way to prove the amount of metal that was removed.

New Business

The Band Shell that belongs to the trails committee is still in the Park and must be removed when the snow is gone.  Supervisor Stigers will write a letter to that effect.

Ed Kiesel of Eagle Harbor Twp called to ask if they can use the Community Building to host Republican Party meetings.  The Board has no objections as the building is open to the public for use but they must call and reserve it for the dates they would like.

Fanny Hooe Motel and Campground and given the Twp a proposal for the twp to purchase their business as public park.  The Twp will review the proposal.

  • Motion to pay audited bills and adjourn Davis/Karl, all were in favor, motion carried 5-0.

Meeting adjourned at 6:42 p.m.
