Minutes for Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Call to Order

    Supervisor Ken Stigers called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. and led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. 

Roll Call

    Present were Supervisor Ken Stigers, Clerk Kelly Coltas, Trustee Ned Huwatschek and Trustee Art Davis. Treasurer Karen Karl was unable to attend due to conflicting appointment with Matt Arko for taxes.

  • Motion to adopt Agenda put forth by Coltas/Davis all were in favor 4-0 motion carried.
  • Motion to approve Minutes of Regular Board Meeting of 11/11/08, and work session of 12/04/08, put forth by Coltas/Davis, motion carried 4-0.

Supervisor’s Remarks and Correspondence

    Welcome to the Grant Township Board to Ned and Art.

    MTA training for new board members will be held in Marquette on Wednesday the 10th.  Ken Stigers will be attending.

    Thanks to Rick Olsen and Joe Langdon for agreeing to help keep the fire department plowed.

Monthly Reports

Treasurer’s Report

Report read by Clerk. Treasurer meeting with Matt Arko for down loading taxes.

  • Motion to approve Treasurers report as given, put forth by Davis/Huwatschek.   All were in favor: motion carried 4-0.

Utility Board

Air diffusion system is in operation at the Lagoon.  At the next CHUB meeting the board will go over the ordinances and wording of ordinances with Dick Supina.  Mike Jukuri is now on the CHUB.

DDA

Public Safety 

CH Fire Dept:

The regular monthly meeting of the CHFD was held on Wed. Dec 3rd with 10 members present.  Had round table discussions on what is needed for the practice and review for next year’s meetings.  Newest member Jack Smith will start fire fighter 1, classes in January.   The air packs and communication units on air packs were checked over.  Air tanks were refilled.  The meeting was the annual Department dinner and food was enjoyed by all.  Mid month meeting was held Nov. 19th, 08.  The Sheriffs snowmobile and rescue sled was run and equipment was checked out for the upcoming winter season.  All trucks were exercised.  Truck #4 was changed over for winter ice rescue and all rescue suits were examined.  The sheriff informed the Dept. that a mobile 800 MHz radio was purchased for each county fire dept., and it would be dropped off at the station.

Quiet Month, No fire page outs, no 1st responder call outs.

LLB Fire Dept:

Monthly meeting held on November 4th.  Tom Talvensaari (new resident at Montgomery Point rd) was voted in unanimously as a new member of the department.  Tom is currently and will remain part of the Ahmeek village fire department as part of the Ahmeek village fire department as part of the county off road rescue unit.  Tom is a certified firefighter and will not require any training.  The LLBFD did purchase him a helmet, helmet light and Boots.  Discussion was held on our structure fire at the Goodman residence.  A straight stream nozzle was misplaced at the fire scene and has not being recovered.  It will have to be replaced.  The Monthly training was held November 6th.

Old Business

Hunter’s Point Update: The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board approved the second phase of the Hunter’s Point Acquisition at their December 3rd, 2008 Board Meeting. Funds for the Phase 2 Grant Request will b included in the next DNR Budget.  This is a two year phased program; funds for Phase 1 were included in the current DNR Budget. The Project Agreement for Phase 1 of the Hunter’s Point Park Acquisition must be submitted by December 31.

  • Motion to approve Resolution #2008-17, to approve the appropriation of all funds necessary for the purchase of Hunter’s Point Phase 2, put forth by Coltas/Davis.  The Board  was Polled:

    Ken Stigers – Yea, Kelly Coltas –Yea, Art Davis –Yea, Ned Huwatschek –Yea

    Motion carried 4-0.  Resolution 2008-17 passed.

Scrap Metal Issue: Kerry Eckland refused to honor the verbal agreement for the payment from the collection of scrap metal at the Spring Clean up.  The new Supervisor will speak with him on this issue as well as Ned Huwatschek and Commissioner Joe Langdon.  Hopefully they will be able to resolve this issue.

  • Motion to pay audited bills and adjourn Coltas/Stigers, all were in favor, motion carried 4-0.
