GRANT TOWNSHIP REGULAR BOARD MEETINGHeld at the Grant Township Hall 230 Gratiot Street Copper Harbor, Michigan 49918Minutes for Tuesday, April 08th, 2008Call to OrderSupervisor Meg Vivian called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. and led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. Roll Call Present were Supervisor Meg Vivian, Treasurer Karen Karl, and Clerk Kelly Coltas, Trustee Gary Barker. Absent was Roxann Smith.

CorrespondenceThe Keweenaw National Historic Park Advisory Committee has 2 vacancies. One for Grant Township, it is a three year term and meets quarterly. No Compensation but mileage is covered.
Monthly ReportsTreasurer’s Report
Utility Board Met on 3/18/08. Dick Supina was a guest. Approved Budgets and Rates for the coming year. Discussed wellhead protection and sludge removal, at this time it is still undetermined if it will be this spring or fall. Bids will go out next week. DDA No Report Public Safety CH Fire Dept: Monthly meeting on 4/2/08 Had discussions on the up coming UP and Copper County Fireman’s Tournament this summer. LLB and CH VFD will combine an ad for the UP tournament book. Discussed the three FF1 candidates upcoming final review for written and practical exams this month. The new air fill station will be installed this coming week. At the mid month meeting the new SCBA were examined. There are 8 units on Truck # 1 and 2 on Truck #2. LLB Fire Dept: Discussed the Firemen’s Tournament and finalized everything for the pancake breakfast. Fire Marshall was there to look over the building that burned on the south shore. Submitted a FEMA Grant application for 2 SCBA’s and 8 spare tanks 1st Responders: One call on the south end. 911 We have received word from the Department of Information and Technology the 500MHz improvements will begin this summer. AT&T analyzed the data from the last power outage and cannot tie the problem to a specific piece of equipment. The new battery chargers have not been installed. As a result of the April 1st phone loss the TELCO engineer has agreed to come to Copper Harbor and induce a power loss so he can observe the failure first hand. The test will be conducted during the day on Tuesday April 15th. As soon as details of the timing have been obtained an announcement will be posted and emailed out. Park and Rec Planning Did not meet last month, next meeting will be on the last Tuesday of this month. Old BusinessHunter’s Point update: Hunter’s Point Park Acquisition Phase 2 Grant Request has been submitted along with notice of intent to WUPPDR. Mr. Powers met with Greg Kingstrom and George Kiiskila of UPEA and discussed the Boardwalk project. Current plans are to advertise for bids this month with bids due on May 6th and the award to be made at the May 13th Board meeting. A mandatory site visit is scheduled for April 25th. The kiosk panel design is progressing NOAAThe initial evaluation of the signal along M-26 indicated reception is spotty. NOAA has submitted a request to increase the transmitter power. They have not given me an implementation date. On April 1st commercial power was lost at 5:03 am. We immediately lost the weather broadcast. I investigated and determined the sewer plant generator was not on line. Checking further it was discovered that the water plant generator was not on line either. Mr. Harrer said the battery at the sewer plant had failed and he was not aware of the problem at the water plant and is investigating. New BusinessHaven Park: We are ready to transfer the deed of Haven Park to the Keweenaw Road Commission.
Public Comment The Keweenaw County Board of Commissioners is going to take the show on the road. They will be in Copper Harbor on July 16th, and in Lac La Belle on August 6th.
