GRANT TOWNSHIP REGULAR BOARD MEETING
Held at the Grant Township Hall 230 Gratiot Street Copper Harbor, Michigan 49918 Minutes for Tuesday, June 12th, 2007Call to OrderThe Clerk Kelly Coltas called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. Roll CallPresent were Clerk Kelly Coltas, Trustees Gary Barker, and Roxann Smith, the Supervisor Meg Vivian and Treasurer Karen Karl were absent.
Supervisor’s Remarks and Correspondence
Spring Cleanup will be on Saturday and Sunday, June 23rd, and 24th. We would like to announce and thank Mike Musiel, who has volunteered to join our team of 1st Responders. Mike brings a wealth of Knowledge and training to our team and we’re grateful to have him. Monthly ReportsTreasurer’s Report
Utility Board
DDA Will be purchasing park benches, waste receptacles, and signs to post on 2nd, 8th, and 9th, street harbor view public access points. Public Safety CH Fire Dept. The regular monthly meeting was held on Wed June 6th, 07 with 8 members present. Discussed upcoming spaghetti dinner (last Friday’s dinner), which was well attended, also spring cleanup, passed the sign up sheet around for monitoring the dumpsters. Up coming events: Copper Country Fireman’s Tournament, Tough Terrain Rescue Class, 4th of July, parade and fire works and food area during the kids games. We ran all vehicles, and practice different procedures and they came back for a stroganoff dinner and cheesecake. The mid month meeting had 9 members present, went to lake Medora to flush out and draft the dry hydrant, all-portable pumps were exercised. One call out at the KML but was a false alarm due to a workman and a propane torch. LLB Fire Dept No call outs. Monthly meeting on June 5,07, worked on DNR Grant for gear. The old trucks will be sold on ebay, helmets and lights ordered for all members. Monthly training was held on May 24th, and training was with the new skid unit and ran through all the functions, all trucks were run as well. 1st Responders One call out to Lake Medora, with a roll over accident. Keweenaw County Planning Commission Report 911 KCB approved the purchase of an ATV to be used for off-road rescue. It will be equipped with tracks for winter use. Currently will be used by Ahmeek who have been using a POV for summer rescue work.It appears that the legislation to continue the 911 funding that will aid Keweenaw County. There will be a .19 monthly charge on all wire, wireless, and VOI connections. There will be an additional $1.35 charge for a variety of law enforcement/rescue related applications. Because of the assured funding, the Keweenaw County 911 Committee will pay for all communications maintenance costs for the Keweenaw Fire Departments and probably the first responders. New equipment will also be supplied but prior approval must be obtained. Planning CommissionTom O’Callaghan gave the report. Old BusinessHunter’s Point update, Contributions are coming in daily. Richard Powers received an invitation to go to Lansing and make a presentation to the MNRTF Board on June 20th, 2007. He will be attending with board approval, a presentation is being prepared.
CH Fire Truck: Review Bids, received and opened Bids on June 1st 07. Only one bid was received out of two that requested the information. The Budget was $250,000.00 and the Pierce Manufacturing came in within the parameters.
Delivery is 10 to 10 ½ months (May 2008). The first draw will be for the chassis in the amount of $77,450.00 100 days prior to delivery. There will be no loan payments due on this truck in the current fiscal year. LLB Dumpster, there have been complaints on non compacting and odor. The trustees have agreed to each go in to compact the LLB dumpster once a week. At this point we had comment from the general public that they felt that was not enough that it needs to be compacted daily. They’re were several volunteers to compact, so extra keys are being made. Also discussions on locations to place the dumpster and ozone took place. New BusinessThe Clerk will send off letters to the three major truck dealerships in the area with bid specifications for the purpose of getting bids on a new water/sewer/general work truck. Haven park: The gravel is in and leveled. The cement will be done soon and materials are ordered. The work will be volunteers and everything is moving according to plan. There is a position available for the County Zoning Board of Appeals.
