Minutes for Tuesday, October 10, 2006

Call to Order

Supervisor Meg Vivian called the meeting to order at ­­6:02 p.m. and lead in the pledge of allegiance.

               

Roll Call

Present were Supervisor Meg Vivian, Treasurer Karen Karl, Clerk Kelly Coltas, Trustee Gary Barker and Trustee Roxann Smith. 

§          Motion to adopt Agenda put forth by Coltas/Barker, all were in favor 5-0, motion carried.

§          Motion to approve Minutes of Regular Board Meeting of 09/12/06, put forth by Coltas/Smith.  All were in favor 5-0, motion carried.

Supervisor’s Remarks and Correspondence

§          Remarks

Copper Harbor Streetscape Work Session will be on 10-11-06 at 6:00 p.m. at the township hall.

§          Correspondence

8th Street Right of Way, received letter from our attorney on the legal action being taken up again by the Drennans.  All the people named on suite do not have to take action but are welcome to if they so desire.

Monthly Reports

Treasurer’s Report

Meeting was too early in month to have reports in yet.  No report.

Utility Board

 Last Meeting was on 9/19/06 Bid by Silar was accepted for the block work at the sewage plant.  The north side of plant block foundation was compromised so needed repairs and new clean fill.  They had to replace 4 grinder pump cores, and went through the water/sewer reports and our water loss is holding steady at under 10%.  Dick Supina was there for the wellhead protection report.  The project is coming to a close.   

DDA

The meeting was 100% about the Streetscape, there was a lot of discussion and set a date for another meeting for more clarification of ideas to get back to U.P. Engineers

Public Safety

CH Fire Dept.

Regular meeting on 10/04/06 where they discussed the Mercy Ambulance situation.  Took all trucks to Medora for practice.  On 10/20/06 at the mid month meeting discussed Hunter’s Point Fire.  They had 3 medical assists and two fire call outs and one search and rescue where the person found himself.  They had a complete oil and lube job done on truck #3.  Dick Powers discussed a Fire Dept. Vehicle Replacement program. Both Departments would like to replace trucks that are over 50 years old and would like to start planning on ways to do this.  The general fund cannot take on a commitment this large at this time so they would like to examine other means of funding this project.

§          Motion to allow Mr. Powers to research both Special Assessments and millage advantages and disadvantages, put forth by Coltas/ Smith all were in favor, motion carried 5-0.

LLB Fire Dept.

No call outs, and no 1st Responder assists.  9/05/06 meeting, and Pomasl was contacted on leaking foam system on new truck, this is an on going problem and they will fix it on 10/18/06. The Tanker truck has been repaired and is back in service.

 911

Radio system is almost ready but still has some bugs on the Eagle Harbor Tower .   El COM has to reset the tones on it.  Mercy Ambulance brought up a vehicle for testing the radios, every thing works except the EH tower but they can communicate using the Gratiot Lake tower.  Keweenaw County will be getting some 800 mghz portable radios for the fire dept.  A Request for a DNR pickup truck for rescue for the Ahmeek village has been requested and Ahmeek will purchase a 4 wheeler with tracks and a sled for hauling out accident victims from the bush.

Old Business

Hunter’s Point update.

§          Motion to call executive session for Hunter’s Point put forth by Coltas/Barker, all were in favor motion carried 5-0.

§          Motion to close executive session Coltas/Barker all in favor, motion carried 5-0.

New Business

 Sharon Powers gave a brief presentation on the acquisition of some furniture for the new Visitor center from the Breezy Point Lodge (circa 1938).  The furniture was given with the understanding that if at any time the table and chairs are no longer wanted or needed in the welcome center they are to be returned to Clyde Wescoat.  She also has discovered and old ballot box and some old poll books from 1884.  There were 174 people registered to vote at the Delaware Mine then.  Sharon has been doing an outstanding job archiving and organizing the historical documents found in the township hall.

§          Motion to pay audited bills and adjourn Coltas/Smith, all in favor 5-0.
