Minutes for Friday, August 11th, 2006
Call to Order
Supervisor Meg Vivian called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. and lead in the pledge of allegiance.
Roll Call
Present were Supervisor Meg Vivian, Treasurer Karen Karl, Clerk Kelly Coltas, Trustee Gary Barker and Trustee Roxann Smith.
- Motion to adopt Agenda put forth by Coltas/Smith, all were in favor 5-0, motion carried.
- Motion to approve Minutes of Regular Board Meeting of 07/11/06, put forth by Coltas/Barker. All were in favor 5-0, motion carried.

Reminder that the Hunter’s Point dedication will be held on 8/12/06.
Monthly Reports
Treasurer’s Report
- Motion to accept Treasurers report as given Coltas/Smith, all were in favor, motion carried 5-0.
Utility Board
The new software is running well with just a few bugs to work out, our water loss is at around 11%.
DDA
Eighth Street
has been started to be cleaned up. The old building/roof has been removed and some brushing done.
Public Safety
CH Fire Dept.
Regular meeting 8/2/06 with 7 members present, mid month meeting in July 7/18/06 with 7 members present. Discussed the point forest fire and the fire at
Fort
Wilkins
. Had 2 med assists and 2 fire call outs. The forest fire at Point is up to 129 acres and the DNR will have an irrigation system to try and flood the area up and running shortly. On 7/22/06 a water rescue class at
Lake
Manganese
was held. This will be done yearly. The Dept. has purchase a new chain saw.
LLB Fire Dept.
No report.
1 call out for a PI on a motorcycle for the LLB 1st Responders.

Copperman Triathlon had 5 fireman and 2 1st Responders assisting in Communication and the race. Dan Fosner was the hero for the day as he supplied a boat when the coast guard boat would not work.

Tower
antenna has been repositioned during the test and there were problems with the transmission. Seems to have been a programming issue with only some radios involved, it has been rectified.
Ahmeek FD will to the off road rescue in lieu of Mercy not doing it anymore.
Old Business
Grant Township Hall/Welcome Center Sign has been put up and it is lovely.
Hunter’s Point report given by Dick Powers Chairman of the Hunter’s Point Committee: An article was published in Thursday Detroit News as a result of one of our press releases. The Hunter’s Point Access Grant Evaluation has been received and we received a preliminary score of 300 Points. There probably is only one area that we can improve our score and our evaluation has been sent on to Bill Olsen for his comments.
Under the direction of Sam Raymond the Hunter’s Point trails have been expanded and improved. The 100 hours of trail improvements to be paid for from the Hunter’s Point Contributions has been used up. The Supervisor and the Clerk verbally OK’d another 50 hours of maintenance to be performed using funds from the authorized spring bridge reserve, as we were unable to do the bridge.
- Motion to approve 40 hrs of additional trail improvement on Hunter’s Point, to be funded from the bridge fund that was not used this spring. Put forth by Coltas/Barker all were in favor 5-0, motion carried.
Responding to a request for assistance with trash pickup on Hunter’s Point, the Supervisor and the Clerk authorized the hiring of Greg Mielcarz for seasonal work.
- Motion to approve the Hiring of Greg Mielcarz on a seasonal basis to patrol and clean Hunter’s
Point
Park
for no more than 5 hours per week, to be paid out of the Township Park Maintenance Budget. Put forth by Coltas /Karl all were in favor 5-0, motion carried.
Discussions on the possibility of setting up a restricted account for the maintenance of Hunter’s
Point
Park
with the Board. The idea was well received and the board will look into it. The idea to continue to receive contributions to fund this project so that Hunter’s
Point
Park
could at some point is self-sustaining.
- Motion to approve Dick Powers to get a recognition Plaque for recognizing the Isaac Walton league Endowment Fund’s Contribution to Hunter’s Point. Put forth by Coltas/ Barker all were in favor 5-0 motion carried.
The Community Room acoustic work will commence shortly. The panels have arrived and we just need to organize the installation.
The benches are in and up thanks to the engineering expertise of Chip Sestock.
Sharon Powers gave a report on the records she has been preserving.
New Business
A work in progress, the Board is review and editing an Employee handbook.
§ Motion to pay audited bills and adjourn Coltas/Smith, all in favor 5-0.
