Minutes for May 9th, 2005

Call to Order

Supervisor Richard Powers called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. and lead in the pledge of allegiance.

Roll Call

Present were Supervisor Richard Powers, Clerk Kelly Coltas, and Trustee Gary Barker. Absent were Trustee Roxann Smith and Treasurer Karen Karl.

 Motion to adopt Agenda put forth by Coltas/Barker, all were in favor 3-0, motion carried.

 Motion to approve Minutes of Regular Board Meeting of 04/11/05 Barker /Powers. All were in favor 3-0, motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report

 No Report

Utility Board

The Water Dept. had a lighting strike at the Water Plant. The estimated cost of repairs is $1000.00, which is what our deductible is. Mr. Supina has checked out 3 locations for the wellhead protection plans.

DDA

No report.

Public Safety

CH Fire Dept.

No call outs, or medical assist. There is no fire hydrant at the State Marina, so the FD is looking into getting a dry hydrant installed there. The Spaghetti dinner is Friday June 3rd, from 5pm to 8pm; the cost is $7:00 a head.

LLB Fire Dept.

No call outs. Pancake breakfast was a great success and earned about $1,300.00.

No meeting, but representatives met to discuss the work on the towers.

Old Business

Hunter’s Point Preservation Project Report,

The appraisal process has started. The Governor has approved the budget. The Trust Fund has the local agreements done and they are being sent out at the end of May.

Lac Labelle Fire Truck Loan/Grant: Letter of intent was signed on5/9/05 and the add will be in the paper for Bids. The Bids will be in by the end of May.

Review of the 05FY project purchases:

Picnic tables will be here soon

Bear proof containers have been shipped

The fireproof file cabinet has been ordered.

 Motion to order the Soundproof study by Hitch and also order bulletin board, and brochure racks for the foyer of the VC. Motion put forth by Powers/Barker, all were in favor 3/0 motion carried.

New Business

 Motion to dispose of 3 wooden benches in the attic (2) to the Mariner and (1) to Renata Gionelli, put forth by Barker/Coltas, all were in favor motion carried 3/0.

 Motion to appoint Ken Stieger and Steve Peters to the DDA with terms to run according to the charter. Motion put forth by Powers/Coltas, all were in favor, and motion carried 3/0.

MJO would like to complete the Sewer from the Marina to 8th Street; we are waiting on approval from the DEQ.

Red Pine Plantings: The Keweenaw County Board has acquired some red pine seedlings for planting in the County. Grant Township will be planting in LLB.

Rezoning in LLB: There is some interest to do some rezoning in LLB. The change if done would be changing from Resort Services to Resort Residential.

It is with regret that the Township Board accepts the retirement of our Supervisor Richard Powers effective 05/31/05.
